Vox Box Archives

Here you can browse past Vox Box chat sessions. Be warned that these are very large files, so will take a long time to load. They are large files because they are very long. If you're not prepared for a long read, you might want to avoid these for now.

NEW -- August 31, 2003 -- The return of the Vox Box chat transcript is heralded by two big conventions that have taken almost all our industry regulars out of chat contention. Nevertheless, this weekend's chat featured fun discussions of anime nostalgia, and fan thoughts on the importance of lip sync in dubs.

July 20, 2003 -- This week we are joined by Mike Toole of Anime Jump, one of our favorite anime websites. Topics discussed this evening include the problem of vengeful dub fans, when songs should be dubbed, and the persistent problem of getting proper walla in dubs.

July 13, 2003 -- Whoops-- didn't get this one up last week. Now it's up, for your viewing enjoyment!

July 6, 2003 -- The IRC server that we use for Vox Box (SandNET) was having serious problems during this session, and as a result, we only have the transcript from the latter half of the chat. Still, it's well-worth reading; the chat was lively and interesting especially considering that attendance was lower than usual (Anime Expo was this weekend, you see).

June 29, 2003 -- Talk about nuts; this one breaks the sanity bank, folks. The June 29 Vox Box set a new attendance record and brought forth a number of new fans and dub personnel, including Chris Patton (Houston talent) and Bill Rogers (New York talent). Tonight's topics are all over the place but mainly center on Anime Expo, which will take place at the end of this week. Definitely check this one out.

June 15, 2003 -- Another packed session, and one of the most entertaining yet for dub fans. Topics discussed include conventions that need more attention from the dub community at large, voicing children in dubs, voice actor prominence (relatively speaking), Kira Vincent-Davis in panties, international accents (and American accents), anime boycotting, marquee roles for VAs, and Anime Weekend Atlanta. Shout-outs abound.

June 8, 2003 -- A fun week on the Vox Box as the AnimationHQ team joins us again to discuss popular trends in American animation. Also discussed: Aspects of a dub that should not be translated, this week's DVD releases, and the how and why of membership in the Screen Actor's Guild.

June 1, 2003 -- The A-kon convention of this weekend kept most of our regulars from attending Vox Box, making for a chat session that was much slower than usual. Topics of discussion include roasted newt, dub personnel interviews, and how a dub's quality affects enjoyment of its content (and vice versa).

May 25, 2003 -- This week we discuss fanservice, the use of honorifics in dubs, and the highly-anticipated anime titles being released this week. Also, we're joined by someone who's not a fan of dubs-- it's always good to have another perspective.

May 11, 2003 -- Things start slow, but pick up about two hours into the chat when seemingly everyone in the world arrives at the chat. Jonathan Klein discloses the newest dub from New Generation Pictures, and gives us some information about it. Monica Rial's uncanny resemblance to Jean Grey is revealed and driven into the ground.

May 4, 2003 -- Jonathan Klein tells us how to make your own Hellsing blood bag. Crew from Industrial Smoke and Mirrors briefly discuss their work in a dub of an upcoming videogame. X-Men 2 is an understandably hot topic (don't worry, our chat is spoiler-free... for X-Men at least).

April 27, 2003 -- The first official Vox Box chat session. We're joined by Jonathan Klein of New Generation Pictures, Monica Rial and Greg Ayres of Industrial Smoke and Mirrors, and Allen Divers of Argo Radio, along with a whole bunch of fans. Also (almost) joining us is Kyle Hebert, who showed up about three minutes after the chat was over. ZING!!
